The Matching Process

A critical step in successful mentoring is the ability to determine appropriate mentor/mentee matches. Our matching procedure is designed to create excellent mentor/mentee partnerships that are so important for the success of both the individuals and the programme overall.

Criteria involved in the matching process include:

  • Preferences of mentor, mentee and/or referring organisation
  • Gender/ethnicity
  • Common interests
  • Geographical proximity

The greatest weight however will be placed on the young person’s and their family’s needs, as established by the evaluating Senior Social Worker from Potential.

Ongoing support and supervision is critical if matches are to go on to be successful and deliver the benefits anticipated by participants. This procedure provides strategies to promote peer support, creative solutions and shared challenges among programme staff and mentees.

Our mentors are committed to provide consistent support and will therefore work with the young person for the duration of the programme.
